Left Handed Fender Electric Guitars

Left handed people can be ambidextrous, or better at doing certain things left handed, and better at doing other things right handed. Many left handed fender electric guitarists find that playing the guitar doesn’t feel comfortable, when playing a right handed guitar, even though it requires both hands to play. If the left hand is stronger and more versatile at picking than chording or vice versa, it often determines whether a left handed guitar would be a better choice.

Fender Musical Instruments started in 1946 and have produced some of the classic guitars like the Stratocaster, which have been used by famous and serious performers.  Started by Leo Fender, a southern California inventor, he decided that he could improve on the hollow body instruments and came up with the solid body guitar. In 1954, when the first Stratocaster came out, they had perfected some of the best features and the new Fender vibrato which allowed players to bend the strings with a tremoto bridge revolutionized the electric guitar world. Leo Fender sold the company in 1965 because of poor health and after several rocky decades, the company reinvented itself in the mid 1980’s.

Why Not a Left Handed Fender Guitar?

For the left hand guitar fans, a left handed Fender electric guitar is a newer version of a famous classic.  While there used to be premiums put on left handed guitars, you can get a left handed Fender guitar at an affordable price.  For those players that feel more comfortable playing a left handed guitar, there is no reason to have to compromise quality in a steel stringed guitar.

Adapting a Right Handed Guitar Doesn’t Always Work Best:

Some left handed players have tried to adapt to a right handed guitar, but their skills are greatly improved when playing left handed guitars. While price used to be a consideration, a left handed Fender guitar does not carry the premium they used to, so it is worth the improvement in the music to be able to play comfortably.

Some players buy the parts to convert a right handed guitar into a left handed guitar, but are not as satisfied with the results as they thought.  By purchasing a left handed Fender guitar, it feels more natural and many professional players are left handed guitarists.

Any Other Issues When Playing a Left Handed Fender Guitar?

The main thing to consider is that most music books are written for right handed chording, but it is easy to get chord generators online that will convert the chords. So many professional players play be ear anymore, that even that is often unnecessary, and should not be a major concern, when deciding to purchase a left handed Fender electric guitar.

The main thing is to find a guitar that makes you feel comfortable and a left handed Fender electric guitar can give you just this. Two of the greater known models are the Fender Telecaster and the Fender Stratocaster both of which are recognised and used widely throughout the world.

Changing the strings on a right handed guitar involves changing the nut to accommodate string widths, and changing the bridge to make the lower stings longer than the top for the proper tones. While many people think you could just reverse the strings, it is the string widths that cause the need for adaptations.

While acoustic guitar bracing is non-symmetrical, electric guitar controls will be backwards. It used to be that altering a right handed guitar was the most affordable option for left handed players, now it is possible to find left handed electric guitars, readily available at an affordable price.

Picking the Way That’s Best For You:

A left handed electric guitar would allow the controls to be proper, and can make life easier for a left handed player. While the difference in adapting a right handed acoustic guitar might not be as noticeable when playing, an electric guitar has added challenges. While some left handed people are able to play guitar right handed, and use a right handed guitar, there are some that are not ambidextrous and cannot master the guitar when playing right handed on a right handed instrument.

A simple way to test your strongest guitar playing style is to simply clap your hands. If the left hand is doing most of the movement on the right hand, then you would be a better left handed player. If both hands move equally or the right hand does most of the movement, then you might play equally well on a right handed guitar, although, that is not always the case.
