The Dean Guitar Company was created with the idea of bringing unique guitars to musicians at an affordable price. The Dean classical solid top acoustic guitar has fitted that bill for over 30 years now in all areas of guitars, including classical acoustics. So when I heard about the Dean classical solid top acoustic guitar, I had to give it a look. Especially the left handed acoustic guitars they offer.

First, we noted the price tag. If you think you cannot afford a Dean guitar, think again. This one has a price range of $219 to $299, depending on where you shop. The MSRP is $348, so you are killing on the price right out or the gate. But don't be fooled by the low price tag. Dean worked some nice features into their Espana series classical guitars.

Now there are classic dreadnought bodies as well as single cutaways. Whatever you prefer, Dean supplies it nicely. In left handed acoustic guitars, that is a major factor. So many times, a left hand player will simply spin the body around and the cutaway is on the wrong side. With the Dean classical solid top left handed acoustic guitar, that is no longer a problem for all you lefties out there.

The neck is also mahogany overlaid with rosewood for a warp free, smooth action unrivaled among classical acoustic guitars. Coupled with the standard jumbo acoustic frets, the action is simply amazing and the sound you get out of this instrument is astounding. Up at the headstock are tuning keys that are of great quality as well so you don't need to worry about falling out of tune.

As an added bonus, most of the Espana series of Dean classical solid top left handed acoustic guitars are electrified with an on board pre-amp/tuner combo. So you can play small venues or larger ones with the same guitar. The amplification option is there if you need it and the quality is fantastic. The on board tuning makes it possible to tune on the fly without having to switch guitars. Just turn off the preamp and you can "quiet" tune while you talk to your audience a bit.

All in all, the Dean classical solid top acoustics are tops among left handed acoustic guitars. The price is right and it is a great piece of workmanship and a fabulous deal.

When it comes to sound quality in an A/E instrument, nobody does it like Takamine. Now Takamine has taken the lefthand guitar to heart with the ETN10-C-LH acoustic electric lefthand guitar. With all the features added here, a lefthand guitar never sounded so good.

The instrument starts out with solid Sapeli Mahogany back and sides and a solid cedar top. All the wood has been kept natural for maximum vibration and sound transference. Even the pick guard has been left off to maximize the sound quality. Actually, Takamine has taken care not to impede ANY sound vibration by keeping the entire top decoration free.

The tones derived from the natural approach are absolutely amazing. The higher registers ring rich and the lower ones stay firm and clear. This is probably afforded to the use of mahogany for the neck overlaid with quality Indian Rosewood. Then there's the dual saddle over that same Indian Rosewood bridge. On the body, the rosette is natural wood and even the dot inlays on the neck are maple wood.

Electronics have not been overlooked and this Takamine lefthand beast is equipped with their patented CT4B electronics. Exceptional value here, folks. The electronics are massive and include an easily accessible battery compartment, a three band EQ for complete tone control, a volume slider control and a built in chromatic tuner with an LED display.

The CT4B console allows you to craft your tone ion the fly, tune between songs if needed and possibly change a battery. All this can be done in the dark with the LED display there. If you need a little more punch on a solo or bridge, just use the volume slider and you're there.

All of this is available in Takamine's ETN natural series, but none have the tonal quality of the ETN10-C-LH. As a lefthanded electric guitar, it can accept effects and growl with the best of them. As a lefthanded acoustic instrument, the sound is sweet and clear. Basically, this is one quality lefthand guitar all around.

For a body style, Takamine has made this a standard dreadnought design with a single cutaway. Oriented for lefthand players, this cutaway gives access to the higher registers easily. The dreadnought is the most widely used body style among acoustic guitars. Now it is available as a lefthand guitar as well.

Chrome tuners round out the look and keep it natural. Now those chrome tuners work in conjunction with the rosewood bridge and dual saddle to create a good bit of sustain. Inside the body, the bracing is scalloped and helps resonate the sound outward with no buzzing or unwanted vibration.

Also each ETN10-C comes with a hard shell case to keep it beautiful and protected.

As I played this instrument, I was struck by it's ability to remain soft and sweet as an acoustic, then get as crunchy as any solid body electric. In conclusion, as an acoustic lefthand guitar, this is a standout as well as a terrific value. As a lefthanded electric guitar, the possibilities are endless.
