The XT-2-L is probably one of the easiest basses to travel with for any guitar lefty. The overall length is only 38 ½” so it fits in a lot of places other larger bass guitars will not. But don’t let that small stature fool you. The neck has a 34” scale length with 24 standard bass frets. A super slim 14” neck radius makes it a dream to play.

What really makes this left bass guitar noticeable is the design and how it looks. For starters, there is no headstock. That headless neck is a trademark of Steinberger and believe me, it works on this model as it does on all the XL series basses. The tuning keys are at the bottom, so the strings run opposite of all standard instruments. The tuners are part of the bridge and feature a 40:1 turn ratio.

The pickups are EMG Select Humbuckers at the bridge and neck positions. These pickups are passive, so they are dependent on the player to tell them what to do, which leads us to the controls on the left bass guitar. Each pickup has its own volume control knob plus there is a master tone as well. The result is a myriad of tone possibilities and stylish sounds.

The entire left bass guitar is made of maple, but the construction is something you have to know about. The neck is constructed of three pieces of maple with the center piece running through the body, giving the guitar lefty player a neck through experience. The body is also a three piece construction with no seams visible.

Because of the way the Spirit is built, the vibration of the strings runs all the way through the left bass guitar and creates a super sustainability and more resonance than I am used to seeing in guitars of this price range. Any guitar lefty will do well to grab one of these left basses.

The maple neck is overlaid with rosewood and is absolutely silky to the touch and fast on the action. With the 4 bass strings reverse strung, the basic tone of the instrument is extraordinary. If you are looking for versatility and a way to look good while sounding excellent, this is the guitar lefty’s wet dream.

As with all guitar and bass players, especially left bass players, stage presence is an important aspect. The Steinberger headless neck and the aerodynamic looking body design deliver that almighty charisma. When you step out with this left bass guitar strapped on, the audience will take notice. This brings the audience into your mojo, guys and girls.

I think you’ll stop at this one, though, because I did – you’ll find the Steinberger XT-2-L left bass guitar awesome.
